We are now officially into the year 2020. Many people will have made New Year’s Resolutions. Some common resolutions include: eating healthier, dieting and going to the gym.
Might I suggest a shift in focus to embrace and future one’s mental health? It is time to put the “me” back into mental wellbeing (Australian College of Mental Health Nurses) – take control of your mental health!
Some practices that can benefit your mental health are:
- consistent sleep routines
- exercise – something as simple as going for a short walk everyday can help reduce stress
- mindfulness – focus on the “here and now” with practices such as meditation
- journaling
- each day write down what you’re grateful for
- write down thoughts that are overwhelming you in an attempt to “discharge your worries”
- be sure to reflect on good things and do not just focus on negative things
- find a new hobby – provides a sense of accomplishment
Be kind to yourself. Do not be afraid to try and fail – “failure gets you closer to what you’re good at” (Louis C.K.)
